Exhibition at Whitehall, Cheam October 2022 - January 2023

The Refugee and Migrant Network Sutton: Belonging
The exhibition showed the creative work by RMNS students under the guidance of three different artists. In the Spring Term Pia Jaime led a group to produce exciting and colourful collages on the theme of identity and belonging. Collage allows people of different backgrounds to find common ground to express complex ideas.
In the Summer term Sarah Orru introduced embroidery skills to create beautifully designed mini frames and larger hoops combining painting and sewing. The students’ work is a beautiful expression of hope and originality, filled with butterflies, flowers and rainbows, all symbols of growth, peace and love.
The focus for the creative course for the Autumn Term was painting led by Irene Caboni. The students will be encouraged to explore their thoughts about nature and human feelings and conditions.
These courses supported the students in their English fluency and help them explore their creative skills. Friendships were made and developed. Students attended two hours a week for four weeks. They were primarily for RMNS students but they were open to others who wanted to practice their English and explore their creative side.
