Sutton Black History Month 14/09/2011
Free film screenings, literary evenings and concerts are on the menu during this year’s Black History Month. Throughout October residents from across the community can get involved in cultural events, performances and workshops at venues around the borough, and for younger residents there will even be a visit from Rastamouse. It will be the second time residents’ group Black History Month Sutton have coordinated the borough’s activities for the annual event, which raises awareness of African and Caribbean heritage and celebrates positive contributions to the political, economical and cultural life of Britain. Refugee & Migrant Justice (RMJ)is facing possible closure due to bureaucratic rules that lead to late payment by the Government for asylum and immigration work. RMJ is a campaigning legal charity that provides free, high quality legal advice and representation to asyluim-seekers, refugees and other migrants. If RMJ is forced to close, then over 100,000 asylum-seekers and other vulnerable migrants will be left without legal assistance.
